Chapter 15

The four guildmates walked through another tunnel. The patter of little feet echoed through the walls. It had a sinister feel that you just couldn’t get in the third person perspective. If this were a horror movie, “Rat Attack” would be appropriate. The sounds never faded, but the team’s attention was pulled to the center of the room as the tunnel ended.

A giant purple mole rat stood in the middle, glowing yellow like the mob Junkee had already faced. Above its head read <The Brood Mother>.

“So, is a group of mole rats really called a ‘brood’?” Spanky asked.

“I don’t know. It isn’t really important,” Junkee replied as he took a step forward, but not before Spanky moved in front of him.

“It is important! It needs to be factually correct, otherwise the devs are misleading us.”

“Okay, first of all,” Junkee explained, “these aren’t mole rats. They are creatures on Azur that look like mole rats. If you ever encounter a glowing yellow mole rat on Earth, you should probably run.”

“If it’s not a mole rat, then why does it look like one?”

Junkee sighed, knowing that Spanky was just trolling him. “They were lazy? Maybe the new guy got to work on it and had no creativity? Who cares. We still have to kill it.”

His attention turned back to his team. “So remember, the brood mother tells us where her little kiddies are heading. Pay attention to your maps. I can get left side, Pain Train gets the right. Inde stay behind the boss in the middle in case one of us doesn’t have enough energy to move the rocks. Got it?”

Each of them answered in the affirmative. The rat stared, mocking them and begging for a chance to eat them in turn. Junkee waited until his team was in position before he gave Spanky the go-ahead.

“Alright, on the tank.”

“You bet it is,” Spanky replied as he jumped at the Brood Mother and turned her around.

From his position on the left, Junkee was able to keep an eye on the boss, Pain Train’s side, and his own. The first 20% of the boss would be easy. Just a tank and spank. But after that, she would summon her adds to help her with the fight. Then things would get really interesting (if by ‘interesting’, he meant stupidly difficult and might kill you never to be seen again.)

Junkee let off his series of shots, his gun combo activating for the extra crit on the third hit. The numbers brought a smile to his face. However, the final move in his combo would only get him so far in a boss fight. The first 20% went by pretty fast. Spanky took some damage. Inde healed him back up. Pain Train and Junkee hammered into the boss. Rinse and repeat.

When the boss hit 80%, then things became hairier. Junkee took a peek at his map and saw hordes of red dots in the edges of his map. It was on his side.

“Okay, I got them,” he announced as he waited to see which direction they would pick.
